Discover the industrial cultural treasures at a leisurely pace – join us on three hikes!

For 25 years, the Industrial Heritage Route has been offering exciting insights into the industrial history of the Ruhr region. This can be done by car, by bike, but even more intensively on foot. We hike through Dortmund, Gladbeck, Moers and Duisburg, past industrial cathedrals and moated castles, up slag heaps at dusk and out of the city to the Rhine. We gradually increase the distance: the first tour is 12 km long, the second 13 and the third 16 km. But this is at a relaxed pace with refreshment stops on hikes 1 and 3. All hikes are circular hikes. There are explanations of what we have seen along the way.

The participation fee is € 12,50 per person.

Am 01.09. (Sunday) We walk through the north-west of Dortmund with a visit to the Hansa coking plant. (No longer bookable!)

10: 00 - about 16: 15 clock

Past industrial cathedrals and moated castles

Join us on our first hike in the anniversary year, which will take you to highlights of industrial culture with
Hansa coking plant and Westhausen mine, but also past magnificent mansions from old
Times like Haus Westhusen and Schloss Bodelschwingh.
At “Aunt Amanda” we invite you to enjoy a cold drink in the beer garden. There you have the opportunity to
have a snack from the grill (at your own expense).

Route length approx. 12 km

Am 14.09. (Saturday) It starts in the late afternoon with a tour through Gladbeck.

17: 00 - about 21: 15 clock

The focus of this 2nd anniversary hike is hiking.

Wittringen Castle is the start and end point of this route through Gladbeck, on which you will get to know part of the Braucker Alps.

We're going up to one of the lesser-known slag heaps in the region, the Mottbruch-Halde. If the weather is good, we'll see the sunset there at around 19.45:XNUMX p.m.
We will give you a small dynamo flashlight for the way back through the darkness.

If you arrive by car, you can park directly at Schloss Wittringen (fees apply) or on the
Large parking lot on Bohmertstrasse (free of charge), not far from the castle. There are no plans to stop for refreshments along the way.

Route length approx. 13 km

Am 3.10. (public holiday) We are traveling in Moers and Duisburg and see a lot of the mining on the left bank of the Lower Rhine.

10: 00 - about 17: 00 clock

Our third hike takes us to the other side of the Rhine: through the settlement of Meerbeck, past the
unusual Meerbeck cemetery, up to the Rheinpreussen slag heap with a great view over the
Lower Rhine.

Once in Duisburg, the Baerler Mill takes us back to times gone by. Right on the
A stop at the “Rheinblick” is planned for the Rhine. We invite you there to enjoy a cold drink.

We walk a little way along the Rhine back to Moers and visit Shaft IV of the
former Rheinpreussen mine.

Route length approx. 16 km
