The 2026 Explorer Pass is here!

Rediscover the Ruhr region – from coal mines and slag heaps to workers' settlements: The newly released 2026 Discovery Pass for the Industrial Heritage Trail makes it easy to explore the most fascinating industrial heritage sites on your own. This compact reference guide from Ruhr Tourism GmbH and the Ruhr Regional Association leads you to the most important locations along the Industrial Heritage Trail and shows how vibrant cultural, leisure, and experiential spaces have developed from former industrial sites.

The free 170-page brochure provides a concise overview of the 27 anchor points, 17 panoramas, and 13 settlements along the Industrial Heritage Trail. It is supplemented by newly compiled background information, suggested routes, and tips for worthwhile destinations in the surrounding area. This allows you to easily and individually plan your own exploration – whether you're traveling by bike, car, bus, or on foot. The 2026 Explorer Passport is available free of charge at over 400 locations in the Ruhr region and as a download at [website address missing]. www.route-industriekultur.ruhr/service/entdeckerpass .

Reward for active explorers

Those who have visited at least eight sites receive a reflective industrial heritage route hip bag at the visitor centers at the Zollverein Coal Mine in Essen or the Hoheward spoil tip in Herten – while supplies last.
