Easter trip to the Hansa coking plant

Gigantic technology and flourishing nature

Big machines, impressive buildings, plenty of water and thriving nature. The industrial monument Kokerei Hansa lures visitors to an exciting excursion into the history of coal and coke over the Easter holidays. On 07.04. (Good Friday) until 10.04. (Easter Monday) there will be a 14-minute guided tour at 90 p.m.

The big and small visitors go on a walk through the industrial monument and learn how the coveted coke was once produced from hard coal at the Hansa coking plant, which was built in the years 1927 to 1928.
The coke was needed in the neighboring smelting works for steel production. But the large industrial plant produced even more: important materials from coal chemistry found their way to further processing from here. Coke oven gas was also in high demand, which was used for district heating in addition to being used in the steel industry.
In the large compressor hall, you can see how the compressors worked when they were in operation. Their task was to compress the gas produced during the coking process in order to feed it into Dortmund's municipal long-distance gas network. Highlight of the guided tours: One of the compressors can be set in motion in demonstration mode.
