“Planet Ocean” – New exhibition in the Gasometer Oberhausen

From the March 15, 2024 The new exhibition “Planet Ocean” presents the fascinating beauty of the world's oceans and their diverse life forms. The innovative show takes you into the little-known depths of this complex ecosystem.

Until November 26th, the current exhibition “The Fragile Paradise” takes visitors on a visually stunning journey through ice and desert worlds, up mountains and down into the rainforest. Afterwards, the lights go out on the popular globe and the gasometer begins to set up the next spectacular show, which also includes a revolutionary large-scale installation.

From the coasts to the deep sea

In various exhibition chapters, the Gasometer shows the oceans of our planet using large-format photographs and films, some of which have never been seen before. A harlequin octopus dances happily through the Mayotte lagoon, there is direct eye contact with a blue shark or a cute sea lion watches the artfully camouflaged rockfish. The consequences of human use of the world's oceans as a source of energy, transport route or source of food are documented in the picture “Net loss” by Audun Rikardsen: a burst net loses its catch and floods the water with dead fish.Consequently, “Planet Ocean” also deals with the important areas of marine protection and research. For this purpose, the new show has an experienced partner, the German Oceanographic Museum, whose scientific expertise forms the foundation of the content.

“Planet Ocean” will be on display at the Gasometer Oberhausen from March 15th to December 30th, 2024.

The current exhibition “The Fragile Paradise” can be seen until November 26th.
