This year, the Industrial Heritage Route once again takes a look beyond the borders of the Ruhr region:
We will travel by coach to Bergisch Gladbach on September 13, 2026 – European Heritage Day. First, we will visit the LVR Industrial Museum Paper Mill Alte Dombach as part of a guided tour. After a break for lunch on your own in Bergisch Gladbach, we will continue with a guided tour of the Zanders site: formerly a world-renowned paper company, now a municipal area with listed buildings, currently undergoing transformation.
On Open Monument Day, the power plant, built by Dominikus Böhm, one of the most important architects of the 20th century in the Rhineland, can be visited.
Sturdy footwear is necessary for exploring the area.

9.30 a.m. Meeting at Essen main station coach stop
11:00 AM – 12:30 PM Visit and stay at the LVR Industrial Museum Alte Dombach
13:00 – 14:20 Individual lunch break in Bergisch Gladbach
2:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Tour of Zanders site
16.15 – 17.00 pm Free time there
17.00 – 18.15 Return journey to Essen and arrival at the main train station coach stop
