Excursion tips for the summer and selected holiday activities for families with children in the Ruhr area
Are the children on holiday in the Ruhr metropolis bored? Not on the Industrial Heritage Route! Many of our locations have a wide range of activities for young and old. There is a lot to discover and experience along the route, such as the factory swimming pool at Zollverein, the Great GPS Treasure Hunt with Edgar in the Duisburg-Nord Landscape Park and the hands-on activities during the holiday activity days at the LWL Museum Zeche Zollern in Dortmund.

July 6st - August 25th
Factory swimming pool at Zollverein
A refreshing swim in the middle of a total work of art: where coal was once baked into coke, swimmers can cool off in the bright blue factory swimming pool from Saturday, July 06, 2024. From July 06 to August 25, 2024, one of the most impressive bathing locations in Germany will be open daily from 12:00 p.m. to 20:00 p.m.

GPS treasure hunt with pipistrelle bat
During the summer holidays, families can once again take part in the popular "Big GPS Treasure Hunt with Edgar" in the landscape park. To mark the 25th anniversary of the Route of Industrial Heritage, the holiday event is being supplemented by a coloring book sponsored by the Ruhr Regional Association. The coloring and story book divides the 27 anchor points of the route into categories such as coal, steel, water & rails, energy and work & life and explains their history in a child-friendly way. Each double page of the book contains text and a picture to color in.

Creative offerings at DASA
Creative offer for the exhibition “Bio.Inspiration”. Nature as an art object: moss, shells or butterfly wings as inspiration for your own unique creations. Mushrooms, flying objects or chameleons can also be made from paper. Their natural models can be found in the exhibition “Bio.Inspiration”.

Holiday action days
The motto of the six holiday activities at the LWL Museum Zeche Zollern in Dortmund is "Zollern Power". Every Thursday between 10.30:16 a.m. and 11 p.m., children accompanied by adults can learn about different forms of energy and try them out in practice at several stations through experiments, demonstrations and craft activities. Each time there is a different focus: sometimes it's about steam power (July 1th and August 18st), sometimes about electricity (July 8th and August 25th) and finally about alternative forms of energy (July 15th and August 3th). The craft activity costs XNUMX euros for materials. Registration is not required.

Mine Safari: Medicinal herbs and magical plants
During mine safaris at the Nachtigall mine, even the youngest children can discover the secrets of nature. Interested naturalists aged six and over can embark on a two-hour safari through the industrial museum. Participation costs three euros plus admission. From 15 p.m.
July 14 & August 25, 2024
Children's Day at the Bochum Railway Museum
On July 14th and August 25th, the Railway Museum starts the holidays with a day full of activities and entertainment for the whole family. The focus is on the younger guests and they can look forward to numerous games and the opportunity to ride on historic vehicles. The history of technology is conveyed in an easy-to-understand and playful way. For example, with explanations on a large steam locomotive or a ride on the rustic field railway. Young and old can experience old technology in a new way. In games such as obstacle course and can throwing, the young visitors can demonstrate their skills and creativity. The popular little rail bus, also known as the "pig snout", commutes between the museum and the Bochum-Dahlhausen S-Bahn station all day long.

Plant and insect safari
Children aged six to ten discover the lifestyles of butterflies, beetles and the like from 10 a.m. to 16 p.m., try wild herbs in the hut jungle and create artificial plants. The participation fee is 10 euros including refreshments. Registration is possible via email to sascha.eversmann@lwl.org or by phone at 02324 9247 150.

The animal world at Zeche Nachtigall
On Sunday, from 15:00 p.m. to 16:30 p.m., the LWL Museum Zeche Nachtigall is all about red admiral and grass snake - animal observation in the industrial museum. The offer is aimed at adults and children aged 10 and over. Sturdy shoes are recommended. Registration required on 02302 93664-10.
