Nature tours at Zollverein

Until October you can explore the extraordinary industrial nature at the UNESCO World Heritage Site Zollverein on various nature tours every second Saturday of the month. After the colliery and coking plant were shut down, nature reclaimed the site and an amazing variety of plants and animals emerged: more than 60 species of birds, over 40 species of wild bees and various rare amphibians are at home on the world heritage site, as are around 540 species of ferns and flowering plants can be found around the coking plant and the Zollverein colliery. So-called neophytes, plants from other countries, also came to Essen through the transport routes of coal and coke from all over the world and have long felt at home on the former industrial site.

Accompanying the current special exhibition "Wild Customs Union" is offered by the Zollverein Foundation in cooperation with the NABU Ruhr this summer and autumn nature tours on various exciting topics:
