New “underground world” opens at Zollverein

The “underground world” at Zollverein invites visitors on a fascinating journey through 140 years of hard coal mining. Tours through the underground world of what was once the largest coal mine in the world can now be booked. The special thing about it is that visitors to the mining bunker on the World Heritage colliery site can experience the hard work of the miners underground up close, thanks to six staged rooms, media stations, film material as well as original objects and sounds on an area of around 250 square meters in the immediate vicinity of the Doppelbock . Numerous original objects, installations and large-format film projections accompany this journey through the strange world of coal mining and provide information about the risks, consequences and also the opportunities with which the Zollverein miners from five generations have worked and lived.
