Nachtigall colliery under steam

Demonstration of the steam engine

On Sunday, February 18th, the LWL Industrial Museum Zeche Nachtigall in Witten will be hosting a demonstration of the steam hauling engine “Under Steam”! Then the historic mining machine from the Nachtigall colliery can be seen in action. The machine has a checkered history and seeing it in motion is something special.

The steam engine is considered a masterpiece in the history of technology. Machines like these not only transported many tons of hard coal above ground, they also powered the pumps for draining the mines. As the huge flywheels of the 130-year-old conveyor machine start to move, participants learn interesting facts about history and the function of the lively contemporary witness to industrialization.

The steam engine demonstration is included in museum admission!
